Qualified Status Changes

You may only make a change in the amount being contributed when you have a qualified status change, provided the change is consistent with the qualified status change. For example, a request to increase your contribution would be consistent with the birth of a child. You must report your change in status within 31 days of the event in order to be eligible to make any qualified changes to your FSA election. 

NOTE: Not all qualifying events allow for a change in your FSA election. You may contact the Caterpillar Health Enrollment Center at 1-833-735-2127 for specific information.

You cannot reduce your contribution below the greater of:

  • The amount already deducted from your pay; or
  • The amount already paid to you.

QUALIFIED STATUS CHANGES (LIFE EVENTS)

  • Marriage
  • Divorce
  • Legal separation or annulment
  • Birth of a child
  • Adoption of a child
  • Placement of a child with you for adoption
  • Death of spouse or dependent
  • Termination of your spouse's or dependent's eligibility for group health insurance under a plan maintained by an employer due to a change in employment.
  • Your spouse or dependent becomes employed and gains eligibility for group health insurance under a plan maintained by an employer
  • A significant change in health coverage attributable to spouse's employment
  • Loss or reinstatement of a child's dependent status due to age, student status, or any other similar circumstances
  • A change in employment status (e.g., start or end employment, begin or return from an unpaid Leave of Absence, change work sites, change from part-time to full-time or vice versa) that leads to a loss of or gain in eligibility for coverage
  • Involuntary change of work schedule events for you, your spouse or your dependents such as a reduction or increase of hours of employment due to strike or lockout, commencement or return from an unpaid leave of absence, change from full-time to part-time or vice versa which would affect eligibility to participate in a group health plan
